Review of Pearls & Pomegranates

Today’s blog is a review of Pearls & Pomegranates, a brilliant eco conscious jewellery brand which supports individual jewellery designers and makers! Pearls & Pomegranates are committed to not only achieving environmental justice, but also pledge diversity among their jewellers, as 89% are female and 26% are ethnically diverse, creating a positive social impact.

I really love how their jewellery partners personally handcraft the recycled jewellery pieces for the customer, as many pieces are made to order, making the jewellery that extra bit special. This is also fantastic, as making each piece to order reduces the unnecessary waste that comes with unsustainable mass manufacturing and production! I also love how they still offer a variety of jewellery, so you are sure to find what you are after, whether it be a statement chunky signet ring or a dainty necklace.

About Pearls & Pomegranates:

Pearls & Pomegranates was established to destabilise the traditional jewellery industry of businesses founded on exploitation of local people and resources. With over 4,500 specialist jewellery retailers and businesses in the UK alone, it can be difficult to know where to find high quality and sustainable jewellery. Yet, Pearls & Pomegranates already brings together the select best emerging independent jewellers, making it easy to browse beautiful designs, with the knowledge that all the jewellery on their website is of premium quality and is consciously created.

Meet the Jewellers:

On the Pearls & Pomegranates website, there is even a dedicated page to the jewellers which I love, because you are able to read a little excerpt about each Jeweller and learn more about their sustainability practices. There is also a picture of them, which enables a connection between the customer and the Jeweller, but also makes the product more personal. It is also interesting to be able to read about a Jeweller’s own positive environmental actions and impact on the planet, which align with your own. I liked reading about Diana Sherling, founder of ‘Lily Flo,’ who not only uses purely recycled materials and vintage or lab-grown gemstones, but also ensures there is no toxic waste in her production for recycled packaging. I love that Pearls & Pomegranates has the Jewellers’ Directory, as it does really give you confidence in their eco-friendly jewellery.

How it works:

Once you have browsed the Pearls & Pomegranates website to find the perfect jewel, you simply make your purchase through their website. Not only does this allow the independent jeweller to earn 75% commission, which is a much higher rate of commission than on many other platforms, but equally, your purchase allows Pearls & Pomegranates to fulfil their pledge to protect the environment. Through the Pearls & Pomegranates partnership with Bioconservancy, with each order, 20 square meters of Columbian rainforest is preserved! This land is protected from agriculture farming and other exploitative activities. Not only does your order allow for the preservation of rainforest and protect the biodiversity of the region, but it also helps reduces your carbon footprint. Although most eco conscious companies plant a tree with each purchase, I think preserving rainforest can be just as, if not more, effective in combating the climate crisis, since there is no guarantee of the lifespan of a tree, when it will be planted, or how well it will be nurtured.

Pearls & Pomegranates will make donations to Bioconservancy, non-profit organisation that was founded in 2005 by Luis Mazariegos. You can track their preservation of the Columbian rainforest through their website or watch one of the videos on the Pearls & Pomegranates website to discover how your jewellery purchase will prove beneficial to the environment.  Pearls & Pomegranates also dedicate 15% of their marketing budget to promoting sustainable jewellery made from recycled materials and donate 5% of annual pre-tax profits to charitable causes. This encapsulates how the creation of ethical jewellery and sustainability is at the very heart of Pearls & Pomegranates, also reflected through their business name, encompassing jewellery and nature.

When your order has been confirmed, the jewellery artisan is notified and your jewellery is created, before being sent to you in sustainable packaging. Each purchase from Pearls & Pomegranates, also allows you to receive points through their loyalty programme, to put towards your next order! A £100 product is £10 in points, so if you were to buy a few pieces worth £100 from Pearls & Pomegranates, you could very soon find yourself able to choose one of their jewellery pieces for free!

In Conclusion:

There are many reasons why I would recommend this brand! Overall, Pearls & Pomegranates offer both fine and affordable jewellery. Every jewellery piece is fairly priced to account for the labour costs of the Jewellers, material prices and quality, designed to give longevity.
